What Happens When Your Kid Doesn't Visit A Children's Dentist?

Most parents strive to do everything in their power to provide the best care to their children. That includes taking care of their kid's teeth as soon as they come out. The best way to do this is to visit a children's dentist who will maintain your kid's teeth and ensure they get the right dental health education.

If your child doesn't visit a children's dentist when they should, their teeth will grow weaker. This article outlines what happens to children who don't go for regular dental checkups.

Cavities

A cavity may result from poor dental management. Kids who don't visit a children's dentist are more prone to cavities. Your kid should start their first dental visit around age one. If they miss out on early dentistry appointments and develop cavities, managing them will become difficult.

A consultation with a dental office will allow a pediatric dentist to assess your child's teeth and gums and recommend appropriate measures. It will also determine whether or not any underlying systemic conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure contribute to tooth decay.

Plaque Build-Up

Plaque build-up on teeth is caused by bacteria living in your mouth and feeding on food particles. If it isn't removed, it hardens into tartar which requires scraping with a dental tool. Tartar build-up will make your child's smile less attractive and lead to tooth decay.

Tooth Loss

Kids can lose their teeth for several reasons, and tooth decay is one of them. Tooth decay happens when the bacteria in your kid's mouth combine with sugars left on the teeth. Your kid can acquire these sugars from soft drinks, candy, and chocolate. If they're not eliminated on time, they'll produce acids that wear away the enamel surface of teeth.

When that happens, cavities form underneath your child's gum line and pulp tissue where they get infected. If this condition isn't handled promptly, your child's tooth may swell. This process can continue until the outer layers degrade and expose nerves. The result is that your child's jawbone will be in pain. Some children may even lose their enamel. The best way to prevent this painful process is by taking your child to the dentist regularly.

If you want perfect dental health for your child, always take them to a children's dentist. That way, they'll detect teeth problems early and handle them before it's too late. It will also keep your kids happy and comfortable.
